The Start of Palomino RVs
Back in 1968, a tent trailer distributor named Vern Landey decided to build his own travel trailers. He wanted to make models that would be lightweight in design and would keep towing and transportation costs down. To maximize the space inside the RV, he came up with innovative floor plans that utilized space and provided more fun when indoors. To top it all off, he priced Palomino RVs at really affordable rates.
At first, Palomino trailers were manufactured in Savage, Minnesota. However, growing consumer demand started to outpace the production at the initial factory and the decision was made to shift to an upgraded facility in Colon, Michigan in 1972. Though a fire destroyed the main production building and offices in 1992, it did nothing to dampen the sale of Palomino RVs.
Corporate Changes
As the demand for Palomino RVs continued to grow, the company opened a 75,000 square foot production facility in 1998. This enabled them to keep up with the customer demands and they also began to produce new ultra-lightweight travel trailers that furthered Vern Landey’s original vision for more lightweight models.
In 2002, Palomino’s parent company Vanguard was bought by Forest River. This made Palomino RVs a part of one of the largest RV manufacturers in North America. This move saw a drastic increase in sales and production. However, Forest River let Palomino function independently, which allowed them to continue to maintain their small business values, be innovative about their vehicles, and provide stellar customer service.
