What Is an RV Vent?
Vents in RVs have not changed a lot over the years. An RV vent is a fan in the roof that you put up either manually or electronically. You will see a vent cap on top of the fan. Over time, both the vent and hood will wear out from exposure to the elements. Replacing these components is not a daunting project if you know what steps to take.
Replacing Your RV Vent
Once you notice that the vent on your RV needs to be replaced, take the time to get it done. You do not want to wait too long, or you will begin experiencing the stale, humid air inside your recreational vehicle. Check your owner's manual to ensure you get a vent that will fit your model of RV.
Always turn off the power before attempting to remove the old vent. Avoid messing with live wires at all costs. After disconnecting the old vent, you will need to get on the roof to remove it. At this point, you can clean around the opening where the old vent used to sit. Before placing the new vent in the opening, take the time to look out for potential issues.
After placing the new vent into the opening, you can wire the system back up as normal. The connections should be the same as with the old vent you took out just before.
Installing an RV Vent Hood
A vent hood, or vent cover, is an important component to help your RV vent work correctly. It prevents dirt from coming into the vent or the interior. To replace a worn RV vent hood, you will need to unscrew the old one. After unscrewing and removing the old hood, you can put your new one into its place. We recommend choosing a hood similar to the one you removed.
