Keep Moisture Low
It's impossible to absolutely cut all of the moisture out of your RV. Between humidity and moisture from the outside, cooking and showering, and just plain breathing, you're going to introduce plenty of moisture to the air in your RV, but by being conscious of your actions and taking a few precautions you can seriously cut back on the humidity in your RV. Cooking and Showering are some of the biggest culprits, as they inevitably cause steam. When you're cooking or showering, open a nearby window or vent, and turn on the vent fan if one is available. If you're cooking in a pot or pan, use the lid (if possible) to trap some of the steam. When you do see condensation forming on your windows or walls make sure to wipe it down (this includes your shower when you're done). By staying on top of the biggest moisture producers in your RV you can reduce the amount work you do combating the condensation in your RV.
Know the Humidity in your RV
It's important for travellers to be informed about the state of their RV. Tracking humidity is really simple, but you'll have to pick up a gadget to help out. The tool that you need is a hygrometer, which measure the water in the air. Hygrometers are available for as low as about $5 and they help you keep track of the relative humidity (in %) of the air. Optimal humidity in a motorhome is between 30% - 50% so having a device on hand to help make this measurement will assist you in keeping condensation low and help prevent the buildup mold and mildew.
Dehumidifying Crystals
If you're putting your RV in storage, or are just looking for a no-power way to take some of the moisture out of your RV, you can pick up dehumidifying crystals. Products like ''Damp Rid'' use these crystals to absorb moisture from there air where it's collected and trapped in an easy to remove bag. The crystals dissolve in the process, so they have to be replaced regularly, but all you have to do is hang the bag in an out of the way place and the crystals will take care of the rest.
De-Humidifiers
A de-humidifier is the no-brainer anti-condensation appliance. These products are purpose built to suck the water out of the air, and they do so pretty efficiently. If you think that a Dehumidifier is the right solution for your moisture problem, then you should make a few considerations: first, the size of the dehumidifier. Most compact dehumidifiers are made for small rooms, which works great for an RV, however if you're travelling in a huge luxury fifth wheel or a Class A motorhome you may have to choose a more powerful unit, or simply move the dehumidifier from one room to another as needed. The second consideration you should make is the power requirements of a dehumidifier. If you're trying to keep your RV dry while it's in storage, a power-free option is going to be a much more practical choice.
